Locksmith 101

Introduction to Locksmithing
This hands-on class introduces the student to the fundamental concepts in Locksmithing. It includes such topics as: the operation of pin tumbler locks, lock components, locksmith terminology, and the technique of cylinder shimming.
 
Disassemble, Repin and Reassemble Kwikset Type Locks
This class features through both lecture and hands-on exercises a step-by-step approach to disassembling, repining and reassembling Kwikset type locks.

Disassemble, Repin and Reassemble Schlage Type Locks
This class features through both lecture and hands-on exercises a step-by-step approach to disassembling, repining and reassembling Schlage type locks.

Disassemble, Repin and Reassemble Import Type Locks
This class features through both lecture and hands-on exercises a step-by-step approach to disassembling, repining and reassembling Import type locks.

Locksmith 201

Functions, Finishes, Grades, and Handing
This class features through both lecture and hands-on exercises the various functions, finishes and grades of locks. In addition, the student is introduced to a variety of different peripherals which increase the security of a standard lock significantly.

Tools of the Trade
This class introduces the student to the various specialized tools that are specifically engineered for use by professional locksmiths to enhance their performance. The students not only receive an overview of these basic tools but participate in hands-on exercises as well.

Disassemble, Repin and Reassemble Mortise Cylinders
This class uses a hands-on format to disassemble, repin, and
reassemble mortise lock cylinders. Mortise cylinders are used in conjunction with locks that are installed within the door, specifically glass/aluminum storefront doors.

How to Drill a Lock
This hands-on class will cover the proper technique for drilling open a lock as well as the essential safety procedures that must be followed. Each student will drill at least two locks.

Locksmith 301

Key Blank Identification
This hands-on class covers the methods used to visually as well as alpha-numerically identify the most common commercial keys by sales volume. Students are taught to use both a database program and a key catalogue for the purpose of identifying and referencing keys.

Key Duplication
This hands-on class covers the step-by-step operating procedure for duplicating an original key using a manual key machine.

Key Impressioning
This class uses a hands-on format to impression pin tumbler locks as well as various lock cylinders that feature flat wafer style tumblers. Wafer tumbler cylinders are used in conjunction with office locks on such items as: file cabinets, desks, drawers, etc.

Key Code Generation
This hands-on class focuses on generating a key by using a punch style key code machine from an alpha-numeric code, or originating a new key for the purposes of repining or master pinning a lock. In addition, the students will be introduced to the fundamentals of code work.
